The Bachelor of Music (BM) at the Natalie L. Haslam College of Music, University of Tennessee, Knoxville, is a professional degree designed for students pursuing advanced training in music performance, education, composition/theory, or jazz. The Music, BM program is a rigorous, immersive degree for students who are serious about pursuing music at a professional level. From the start, students receive personalized instruction through one-on-one studio lessons with faculty who are not only educators but active performers and composers. Students perform regularly in large and small ensembles, gaining real-world experience and building confidence on stage. Alongside performance work, students dive deep into music theory, musicology, and aural skills to develop a strong academic foundation. The chosen concentration shapes the journey through specialized courses tailored to interests and goals — all culminating in a senior recital or capstone experience. As the only College of Music in Tennessee and one of the few standalone music colleges in the nation, UTK Haslam shapes “the sound of tomorrow.” NASM-accredited and an All-Steinway School, the college’s faculty includes exceptionally skilled educators and internationally acclaimed artists and scholars frequently performing on prestigious stages, releasing albums, composing award-winning works, and working with top music labels.
