About this program
The Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Music at UTK’s Natalie L. Haslam College of Music is ideal for students who want to grow as performers while exploring a broad, customizable academic experience. The BA emphasizes well-rounded development, blending rigorous musical training with liberal arts study, foreign language, and general education courses. Students receive private lessons on their instrument or voice, participate in ensembles, and take courses in theory, ear training, and music history, while also fulfilling elective requirements that reflect personal interests or potential career paths. The BA in Music has two concentrations: Applied Music (focused on performance training within a flexible interdisciplinary structure; ideal for double majors and graduate-school preparation) and Music Business Administration (preparing students for careers in artist management, music industry, recording, music publishing, and music technology business; faculty include world-renowned jazz guitarist and recording artist Juan Carlos “JC” Quintero, who has worked with Saban Brands, Genius Brands International/Kartoon Studios, and Funrise Inc.).
