About this program
The School of Jazz and Contemporary Music at The New School offers a BFA in Jazz and Contemporary Music with a Vocal Concentration. The curriculum includes Fundamentals Improvisation, Fundamentals Composition, Vocal Performance small-group study, private lessons, Music Tech Seminar, Entrepreneurship, and electives. Students can request private lessons from more than fifty vocalists — including Jazzmeia Horn, Kate Baker, Fay Victor, Sarah Elizabeth Charles, Sara Serpa, Elisabeth Lohninger, La Tanya Hall, Amy London, Julie Hardy, and Charlotte Small. Songwriting study is available with faculty including Marlon Saunders and Hank Shocklee. Students may take classes across The New School, including Parsons and Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts.
