BA in Dance Performance and Choreography
Spelman College — Atlanta, GA
About this program
Spelman College is the most prestigious historically Black women's liberal arts college in the United States — ranked #1 HBCU for 19 consecutive years. The Department of Dance Performance and Choreography was established as a standalone department in fall 2016 (separated from the former Department of Drama and Dance), reflecting the programme's maturity and distinctive identity. The BA in Dance Performance and Choreography at Spelman honours Black dance traditions alongside global movement forms, centring the African American experience within a rigorous technical and scholarly curriculum. Located in the LaTanya Richardson Jackson and Samuel L. Jackson Performing Arts Center, the programme develops graduates as performers, choreographers, dance educators, and community artists. Students benefit from Spelman's position within the Atlanta University Center consortium, the vibrant Atlanta dance scene, and the college's mission to produce freethinking women of colour who lead in their fields.
