BS in Dance Education (BS Dance)
Southern Utah University — Cedar City, UT
About this program
Southern Utah University's BS Dance program prepares students for careers in dance performance, choreography, and education. The program emphasizes intermediate to advanced proficiency across three primary dance disciplines—Jazz Dance, Modern Dance, and Ballet—with the flexibility to specialize in one discipline at an advanced level. Students develop comprehensive knowledge of dance history, kinesiology, composition, improvisation, and production design. The program is structured around a rigorous technique core combined with theoretical coursework in dance history, aesthetics, choreography, and teaching methods. Many students pursue K-12 dance educator licensure through the College of Education and Human Development, while others complete enrichment electives or minors. All students complete a capstone project that develops original scholarship critically evaluating their creative practice through written and oral defense presentations to faculty.
