BFA in Theatre
Shorter University — Rome, GA
About this program
Shorter University is a private Baptist liberal arts university in Rome, Georgia — founded in 1873, enrolling approximately 1,200 students on the scenic Rome Hill campus. The School of Fine and Performing Arts (SOFPA) is consistently cited as one of the finest arts schools in the Southeast, offering a conservatory-style education rooted in the liberal arts with a low student-to-faculty ratio and a distinctly Christ-centered mission. The BFA in Musical Theatre at Shorter is an intensive, pre-professional programme that prepares students for working careers in professional theatre from day one. All BFA performance majors are required to audition at the Georgia Theatre Conference (GTC) each fall, which screens students to attend the Southeastern Theatre Conference (SETC) each spring — the largest multi-theatre auditions in the nation. The programme's emphasis on professional audition preparation, combined with SETC access, creates a direct pipeline from training to professional employment. The curriculum includes acting, stage movement, voice for the actor, audition techniques, makeup, theatre production, theatre history, eight semesters of dance, weekly private voice lessons with Music Department faculty, diction, ear training, theory, and musical theatre history.
