BA in Theatre Arts
Saint Edward's University — Austin, TX
About this program
Saint Edward's University is a private, Catholic liberal arts institution in Austin, Texas, ranked among the top 5 Regional Universities in the West by U.S. News & World Report. The Department of Performing Arts offers two theatre degrees — the BFA in Acting and the BA in Theatre Arts — and is home to the Mary Moody Northen Theatre (MMNT), one of the most distinctive undergraduate performance venues in the United States. MMNT holds the distinction of being the only undergraduate performing arts programme in the United States that produces a full season under an Actors' Equity Association (AEA) agreement. Students across both the BA and BFA work in and around MMNT productions alongside professional AEA artists and can earn points towards AEA membership. The BA in Theatre Arts is a broader, more flexible degree that allows students to focus on directing, design and technology, theatre management, or storytelling/new forms, rather than the intensive performance-only training of the BFA. Austin's performing arts ecosystem — more than 80 theatre companies, 200 live music venues, SXSW, and ACL Music Festival — provides unmatched professional exposure and internship opportunities for BA students. The Theatre Communications Group lists MMNT as a member institution.
