About this program

Saginaw Valley State University is a regional public university in University Centre, Michigan — in the Great Lakes Bay Region, serving approximately 7,500 students. The College of Arts and Behavioral Sciences houses both the Department of Theatre and the Department of Music. SVSU's liberal-arts-based Theatre programme is housed in Curtiss Hall and provides opportunities to develop creative talent through study and hands-on production work. The programme produces four main-stage theatrical productions per academic year, serving as a training ground for students across all aspects of theatre-making. Students may concentrate in performance, design/technology, directing, or pursue a broad generalist track. In addition to merit-based academic scholarships, the Department of Theatre offers private talent scholarships through an audition/interview process. Specialized courses including the Mini Light Lab, Commedia dell'arte, and stage combat are offered alongside standard curricular requirements. Theatre students are invited to join Alpha Psi Omega, the national theatre honour society. No audition is required for admission to the BA in Theatre.
