Roanoke College — Salem, VA

BAMusicSalem, VA

About this program

Roanoke College is a private, Lutheran-affiliated liberal arts college in Salem, Virginia — in the Roanoke Valley, adjacent to the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Appalachian Trail — with an enrollment of approximately 2,000 undergraduates. Roanoke consistently appears on Princeton Review's Top Colleges lists and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa. The college offers 35 majors, 57 minors and concentrations across BA, BS, and BBA degrees. The BA in Music at Roanoke is a traditional liberal arts degree housed in the Olin Hall Fine Arts Center. Applied lessons are available in all instruments and voice for credit or personal enrichment, and the music faculty are working performer-scholars. Ensembles include the Concert Choir, Chamber Singers, Jazz Band, Wind Band, and Orchestra — all open to music majors and non-majors. Olin Hall also houses the Olin Theater, a multi-purpose performance and recital space that hosts the college's Performing Arts Series of visiting professional artists. Roanoke does not require an audition for admission to the Music major. Admissions are through the standard Common App process. Music scholarships are available for qualified incoming students. The Honors program and RISE research grant program ($2,000) offer additional academic opportunities.
