BFA in Musical Theatre
Northwestern State University of Louisiana — Natchitoches, LA
About this program
NSU's BFA in Musical Theatre delivers intensive, conservatory-style training in acting, singing, and dance. The program emphasizes small cohorts, industry connections, and hands-on experiences. NSU's Theatre and Dance program is one of only 150 programs in the United States accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre (NAST) and is designated as the Center of Excellence in the Arts for the University of Louisiana System. The overall Theatre & Dance program has approximately 130 majors and minors taught by fifteen faculty members. The program is housed within the A.A. Fredericks Fine Arts Building, with performance venues including a 1,400-seat proscenium stage (A.A. Fredericks Auditorium), a 125-seat thrust stage (Theatre West), and a 60–75-seat black-box theatre (The Wann Theatre). NSU's Theatre and Dance produces four to six full stage productions each semester (typical season: one or two stage musicals, one or two 'straight' shows, a dance concert, an outreach performance, and a classical theatre selection), plus two or three summer performances.
