BM in Performance—Jazz Studies
New Jersey City University — Jersey City, NJ
About this program
NJCU's Bachelor of Music in Performance—Jazz Studies prepares students to work as a solo or ensemble performer, private teacher, or conductor, with a focus on performance, jazz education, arranging, and composition. The NJCU Jazz Ensemble (directed by Dr. Robert Prowse) performs regularly in the greater New York/New Jersey metropolitan region including at The Blue Note, Birdland, Trumpets, and Cecil's nightclubs. The Jazz Ensemble released a recent album (Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow) — prospective jazz majors receive a copy. Previous releases have been featured on WBGO-FM. Repertoire spans big-band history (Fletcher Henderson, Benny Carter, Duke Ellington, Thad Jones, Bob Mintzer, Gordon Goodwin, Maria Schneider) plus student and faculty originals.
