About this program

NIDA's BFA (Costume) is a three-year full-time course providing in-depth knowledge and skills for costume making and costume supervising across theatre, film, and digital media. Students develop skills in costume cutting (pattern making), fitting and construction, fabric dyeing, art finishing and fabrication, underpinnings, leatherwork, tailoring, and headwear. Year One: basic costume assistant skills and backstage responsibilities including dressing, costume maintenance, and alterations. Year Two: pattern-making, fitting, construction, tailoring, and art finishing for more complex costumes. Year Three: costume supervisor role with project management responsibilities, an independent research project, and an industry placement with leading theatre, opera, and dance companies or major film and television studios.
