BFA in Musical Theatre — Kent State University (NAST accredited)
Kent State University at Kent — Kent, OH
About this program
Kent State University's BFA in Musical Theatre prepares students for careers as working artists in the musical theatre field. Training is intensive and interdisciplinary — students develop fully realized skills in music, dance, and acting simultaneously. Practical training and creative experiences are coupled with an interdisciplinary liberal arts curriculum and a foundation in theatre history and theory. 'Admission to this major is selective. Applicants must pass an audition in each of the three performance areas — dance, singing and acting — to be admitted. Students who pass the audition are admitted directly into the major in the first semester of their first year.' PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS: Students participate in biannual BFA evaluations and annual review meetings; must maintain a 2.500 major GPA; are required to audition for all mainstage productions and accept roles if cast; must participate in annual school screening auditions; if qualifying, must participate in at least one unified (national) audition per year. BFA candidates MUST secure at least one role of significance to graduate. SENIOR YEAR: NYC Musical Theatre Showcase — students may audition to participate; enables performance for casting directors, talent managers, and theatrical/commercial agents in New York City.
