About this program
IU Indianapolis's BS in Music Technology is a four-year programme instilling 'technical, theoretical, and creative skills required to pursue professional careers in the growing field of music technology.' Students enroll in both traditional music studies (music theory, aural skills, keyboard studies, applied instrument lessons) and wide-ranging technology courses. CURRICULUM AREAS: Essentials of Music Technology (acoustics, psychoacoustics, analog/digital audio, MIDI, digital notation); Recording and Production (industry-standard recording software, microphone design/placement, mixing, mastering); Live Electronic Manipulation and Performance; Creation and Composition through Music Technology; Digital Signal Processing for Music; Interface and Instrument Design. OUTSIDE CONCENTRATION: Students develop a concentration in an allied field (business, computer technology, informatics, communication studies, mathematics, languages, etc.). CAPSTONE: Degree culminates with capstone project combining creative, technical, theoretical, and historical knowledge. 120 credit hours required.
