About this program
Howard University's BFA in Dance Arts is 'the pioneering Historically Black College/University (HBCU) to offer a four-year BFA degree in Dance Arts.' Founded by Dr. Sherrill Berryman Johnson (1991). 'The Dance Major is designed to cultivate virtuosic dancers and critical thinkers.' PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES: Student Choreography; Senior Capstone Performances; Spring Concert; Musical Theatre musicals; Annual International Conference and Festival of Blacks in Dance; D.C. community and abroad performances. CURRICULUM: Technical movement mastery + theoretical depth. African diasporic traditions + contemporary forms + interdisciplinary studies. Semi-annual jury examinations. Senior practicum capstone experience. Master Class Series: Desmond Richardson (Complexions Contemporary Ballet); Nique Technique + Hip Hop Master Class.
