About this program
Hendrix's BA in Music prepares students 'for a wide variety of professional opportunities or to enter graduate programs for further study.' CURRICULUM: Theory and composition sequence (MUSI 100-440); history and literature sequence (MUSI 101-402); applied lessons and ensembles area (MUSA 200-400). 12 courses total plus additional requirements. ENSEMBLES (open to all students regardless of major): Chamber Orchestra (auditioned; Mondays/Thursdays 4:15-6:00 PM); Choir (auditioned; three 80-min rehearsals/week; tours within Arkansas and neighboring states); Wind Ensemble (auditioned; 4 concerts/year; Mondays/Wednesdays 4:15-6:00 PM; performed in multiple states); Jazz Ensemble (no audition; 90-min rehearsal/week; all jazz styles); Women's Ensemble (no audition; all women); Chamber Ensembles (formed by student interest each semester). PRIVATE LESSONS (all students): MUSA 300 ($150/semester for half-hour weekly lessons); MUSA 400 — advanced hour-long lessons ($300/semester; requires audition before music faculty; intended primarily for music majors; 6 hours practice daily required).
