About this program
Goucher's BA in Dance Studies provides rigorous studio and academic training within a liberal arts context. 'No audition is required to major or minor in dance.' Students are placed in technique levels by audition at Fall Orientation. STUDIO CURRICULA: Classical ballet and modern dance equally emphasized. Augmented with jazz and African dance. Four levels of ballet (DAN 121-421); four levels of modern (DAN 115-415); two levels of pointe; four levels of West African Diaspora Technique (DAN 133-433: hip-hop, jazz, tap, West African). DANCE SCHOLARSHIPS ($1,000-$10,000/year; renewable): Option: Dancewave auditionees (no re-audition; just apply to Goucher + complete scholarship application). Apply to Goucher via Common App. SENIOR THESIS PROJECT: Beginning in junior year; series of research questions, practices, choreographic studies, and texts; culminates in Senior Thesis Project. Senior Seminar: develops personal website and artistic archive. DOUBLE MAJOR OPTION: Students often double major in dance + another field. Arts management available as a concentration.
