THE JAMES LAPINE THEATER: 'Franklin & Marshall College is pleased to announce that the Green Room Theatre will be rededicated as the James Lapine Theater, a tribute to the Broadway legend and one of F&M's most decorated and accomplished performing arts graduates.' James Lapine is a Tony Award-winning Broadway director and librettist known for Sunday in the Park with George, Into the Woods, Falsettos, and many other landmark musicals. PROGRAMME PHILOSOPHY: Students 'work through performance and theory in order to develop creative responses to the demands and opportunities of global citizenship.' Faculty-directed productions are 'cast and crewed by students selected by audition' — auditions for productions are open to ALL students regardless of major. THEATRE PROGRAMME REQUIREMENTS: Theatre majors must complete at least two crew assignments (backstage/production work). Set design; lighting; sound; costumes; make-up; props; and more. Collaboration with professional musicians, music directors, composers, dramaturgs, and more. Guest artists: Broadway stage managers; professional designers. SUMMER TRAVEL AWARDS: Franklin J. Schaffner Theatre Award: Honors outstanding contributions; provides opportunity to attend English theatre productions and enroll in theatre programs in England. Geoff Pywell Award: Recognizes a rising sophomore or junior's achievement and potential in acting; supports summer study in acting or directing. THEATRE FACILITIES (Roschel Performing Arts Center): Schnader Theatre (305 seats; intimate feel). Two spacious dance studios. Drama studio. Box office; dressing rooms; costume shop; scenery shop. James Lapine Theater (recently rededicated). COMMONWEALTH COMMITMENT: Pennsylvania residents with household income below $75,000: attend F&M TUITION-FREE. PA residents with household income between $75,000 and $150,000: pay no more than in-state tuition at Penn State University. This is one of the most significant financial aid commitments at any private liberal arts college in Pennsylvania. 92% of the most recent graduating class were employed or furthering education within six months — among the highest rates nationally. INTERNSHIPS: Lancaster is 'an integral educational partner teeming with opportunities to learn, serve, and engage with the local community.' Students gain experiences with community arts organizations and other local and regional partners.
