Franklin & Marshall College is 'an outstanding destination for those who wish to pursue the study of music in an intellectually engaging liberal arts environment.' MUSIC CURRICULUM: Music history; music theory; composition; ethnomusicology; jazz; global popular music; conducting. 'The writing, analytical, critical thinking, and creative skills you gain by studying music in F&M's liberal arts environment can play a pivotal role in your post-college plans.' ENSEMBLES (all open to all F&M students regardless of major): College Chorus; Chamber Singers; Jazz Ensemble; two orchestras; Symphonic Wind Ensemble; African Drumming Ensemble; various chamber groups. Private lessons with renowned teachers available to all students. NOLT MUSIC AWARD: A grant that supports a self-directed music project in the period following graduation — a unique opportunity for recent alumni to pursue an independent creative music project with F&M funding. (Graduate hrushka used his award to complete his first EP, Mid-October, and launch his independent production company Warm Glow Records.) It is common for F&M music majors to study in graduate programs in musicology, ethnomusicology, and composition — often at leading institutions. DOUBLE MAJORING: Many F&M music students double major — combining music with economics, ice hockey (student-athlete), biology, or any other discipline. The liberal arts flexibility makes this highly achievable. COMMONWEALTH COMMITMENT: Same as Theatre — PA residents below $75K income: tuition-free.
