About this program
IMPORTANT NOTE: Francis Marion University offers a BA in MUSIC INDUSTRY — NOT a traditional Bachelor of Music or BA in Music Performance. This is a specialized degree that combines music study with industry-specific training in one of three specialty tracks. THREE SPECIALTIES: Performance Specialty: advanced applied performance study alongside music industry context; prepares for careers as professional musicians and music industry performers. Business Specialty: music management, publishing, copyright, marketing, event management; prepares for careers in music business, artist management, and music industry administration. Technology Specialty: music production, recording engineering, audio technology; prepares for careers in recording studios, audio production, and music technology. ENSEMBLES AND PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES (all open to general FMU student body): University Concert Choir: 35-45 members; performed with Florence Symphony Orchestra; choral-orchestral works including Beethoven Ninth Symphony; also performed in Vienna (Austria) and on a Bahamas performance cruise; most FSU students may pursue the introductory music course and performance ensembles. Cut Time (vocal show ensemble). Voice Collective (audition-only; small vocal ensemble; performs regionally and internationally). University Concert Band: community members also participate; professional area music educators and band directors invited. Music Industry Ensemble. University String Ensemble. Fine Arts Chamber Recital Series. The Department also coordinates the University Artist Series (professional touring artists presented at FMU Performing Arts Center) and maintains the Art Gallery Series. NOTE: All FMU students 'may pursue the introductory course in music and performance ensembles' regardless of major.
