About this program
Evangel University's Department of Music is NASM-accredited and offers four music degrees. All four require an audition for admission. On-site auditions are preferred. FOUR DEGREE OPTIONS: BM in Music Performance — intensive performance study; Sophomore Review (jury exam) required; junior and senior recitals required; prepares for professional performance career or graduate school. BM in Music Education — leads to Missouri K-12 music teaching certification; same audition and Sophomore Review requirements as BM Performance. BA in Music — 49 credits of music courses; option for students with strong music interest not pursuing teaching, ministry, or performance as a sole focus; REQUIRED emphasis in Theatre OR approved minor (20-24 additional credits to graduate); Sophomore Review required. BM in Worship Studies — prepares for church worship ministry and arts administration; concentrations in Worship Leadership and Arts Administration; MUSC 098 Concert Experience required for four semesters; Sophomore Review required; same audition requirements. ENSEMBLES: University Chorale; EU Marching Band; orchestras; various chamber and ensemble groups. FACILITIES: Barnett Recital Hall (300-seat; recording studio); Barnett Theatre (220-seat; small orchestra pit); Seymour Chapel (Worship Leadership recitals). ADMISSION PROCESS: Based on audition, students may: (1) be given full acceptance into the music major curriculum; (2) be accepted on provisional status for one semester, at which time they must re-audition during the semester jury exam; or (3) be advised to pursue another area of study or possibly to minor in music. FINE ARTS SCHOLARSHIPS: $1,000–$3,000/yr for majors; $1,000–$2,000/yr for minors/performance awards; requires submitted application + audition and/or portfolio evaluation.
