About this program
ESU's Music Programme is notable for its flat-rate tuition structure and free private music lessons for enrolled students. Music Office: 620-341-5431; muscstud@emporia.edu. TWO BM DEGREE OPTIONS: BM in Music Performance (concentration in Music Performance) — for students interested in professional performing or independent teaching careers; especially appropriate for those planning graduate study in music. A formal performance audition is required after completing the first two semesters of applied study (end of the first year). The programme centres on music theory, history, and literature with strong emphasis on solo, chamber, and large ensemble performance. BM in Music Education (Instrumental or Vocal PreK-12) — prepares for Kansas PreK-12 music teaching certification. Same general music audition structure as BM Performance. FLAT-RATE TUITION AND FREE PRIVATE LESSONS: ESU's flat-rate tuition model means students pay the same regardless of credit hours (within full-time range). Private music lessons are included at no additional cost. ENSEMBLES (all open to music majors AND non-majors): Bands; choirs; orchestras; jazz ensembles; chamber music groups; flute choir; saxophone quartet.
