About this program
Elmhurst University's BA in Musical Theatre is a joint degree offered by the Department of Theatre and Dance in cooperation with the Department of Music. 'Designed to prepare students for a professional performance career in musical theatre, this major is grounded in theatre arts, music theory and dance.' Students gain experience in acting, voice and movement for the stage, applied voice, music, and dance. JOINT DEGREE STRUCTURE: Students work with both Theatre/Dance and Music faculty throughout the degree. The dance minor is a suitable complement to the Musical Theatre major and is strongly encouraged. PRODUCTION REQUIREMENTS (all required of every Musical Theatre major): Audition for vocal ensembles in the fall each year. Audition for theatre productions each term on campus. Participate in end-of-term programme assessment showcases when enrolled in performance courses and ATA/ATM. Participate in music juries at the end of terms when enrolled in AMT (Applied Music Theatre) and AMV (Applied Music Voice) courses. FINAL RECITAL: Not a programme requirement, but a final recital or joint recital is possible in consultation with the student's vocal instructor.
