East Texas Baptist University is a Christian liberal arts university in Marshall, Texas. The Theatre Arts programme requires an audition or portfolio review for ALL degree concentrations — no exceptions. FACULTY: Dr. Katie Wampler — Director of Theatre; directed The Women of Lockerbie and Singin' in the Rain. Jake Yenish — Designer/Technical Director. Matthew McKinnon — Musical Direction. Jenna Guest — Music Building namesake. FACILITIES: Jenna Guest Music Building — Black Box Theatre; Mabee Recital Hall; rehearsal spaces. Memorial City Hall Downtown Marshall — off-campus main stage for larger productions (e.g., Singin' in the Rain). FOUR CONCENTRATIONS: Performance — acting, voice and movement, stage performance training; Christian worldview integration. Design-Technology — scenic, lighting, costume, sound, stage management, technical theatre. Musical Theatre — acting, applied voice, music theory, dance, history and literature of musical theatre. BSE Theatre Arts Education — Theatre Education leading to Texas teacher certification. PRODUCTIONS: Spring Musical annually — fully staged with live pit orchestra. Recent productions include The Women of Lockerbie (Black Box) and Singin' in the Rain (Memorial City Hall). Discovery Series — student-led productions directed by Theatre Education students. APO Improv Troupe — regular improv comedy performances. CHRISTIAN WORLDVIEW: All performance and design decisions are made through a Christian worldview lens. The programme prepares students to engage the performing arts 'as Christian artists in a secular world.' ADMISSION PROCESS: Call 903.923.2158 to schedule your audition. Complete the audition form at least 2 business days prior to your scheduled date. Bring headshot and resume. Auditions held in Jenna Guest Music Building. Faculty jointly decide: admit, provisional admit, or deny.
