About this program
ETSU's Department of Theatre and Dance offers the BA in Theatre Arts with four concentrations. Interim Chair: Cara Harker, MFA (harkerc@etsu.edu; 423-439-5687; Gilbreath Hall 214B). Department contact: (423) 439-6524. INTERIM CHAIR: Cara Harker — authored Foundations for Performance Training: Skills for the Actor-Dancer (Routledge); professional actor and director. FOUR CONCENTRATIONS: Acting — no audition required for programme admission; conservatory-style acting training in liberal arts setting. Musical Theatre — audition required via ETSU Music Department audition page (etsu.edu/cas/music/auditions/auditions.php); see full audition requirements below. General — no audition required; broad-based study across all theatre disciplines. Design-Production — no audition required; scenic, lighting, costume, sound, stage management. BARTER THEATRE PARTNERSHIP: ETSU has a formal partnership with Barter Theatre (Abingdon, VA) — the State Theatre of Virginia and the nation's longest-running professional theatre. Two students per year are selected for a Barter Internship providing 12 academic credit hours + a stipend. Discovery Series — student-led productions directed by Theatre Education students. KCACTF participant. SCHOLARSHIPS: Daryl and Harold 'Bud' Frank Scholarship: $6,000/year; awarded to 4 incoming freshmen and 4 transfer students each year; audition required. Creative Arts Scholarships: reduces out-of-state students' tuition to in-state rate; minimum 2.5 GPA; minimum 5 hours/week involvement in department; must audition for Mainstage role or work as technical member each semester; must enroll in Theatre and/or Dance course each semester; full-time student required.
