About this program
Dickinson College's BA in Theatre & Dance (Dance cluster) provides rigorous dance training within a liberal arts framework. Director of Dance and Chair: Sarah Skaggs (Associate Professor; internationally renowned choreographer from New York City; NEA, Jerome, Harkness, Greenwall, and Rockefeller Foundation fellowships; artistic director of Sarah Skaggs Dance; skaggss@dickinson.edu). The Dance cluster requires Introduction to Dance (THDA 102); two technique or design courses; Fundamentals of Choreography (THDA 204); Dance History (THDA 316 or equivalent); at least one additional dance technique course; and Dance Production and Performance (THDA 220 or 304). Dance technique is taken every semester; THDA 220 is taken every semester throughout the program. Co-curricular organisation Dance Theatre Group (DTG) produces high-quality concerts supervised by faculty and professional artists. The Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet (CPYB) Ballet Certificate Programme is available to eligible students by separate audition: eight courses combining daily studio training with academic study. The Inter-Arts Major in Dance & Music is a separate thirteen-course major.
