Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania — Bloomsburg, PA

BMMusicBloomsburg, PA

About this program

Commonwealth University's BM in Music is a music-intensive degree designed for students pursuing leadership careers in music industry fields. It provides more concentrated music coursework than the BA and is available at both the Bloomsburg and Mansfield campuses. All music majors complete coursework in music theory and aural skills, music history, class piano, ensembles, and applied lessons. The BM also includes an internship requirement (3 credits, 120 hours) in a music industry-related field chosen by the student. The BM in Music offers three tracks: Performance — intensive applied training on primary instrument or voice, ensemble participation, solo recital, advanced repertoire development, and performance-centred coursework. Music Business — combines the performance core with coursework in music industry, marketing, arts management, business administration, and contract/copyright law. Music Business students complete a 3-credit internship in a field aligned with their career goals. Music Technology — combines the performance core with recording, production, and technology coursework. Music Technology students are given ample opportunities to apply classroom learning in practical experience. Same faculty, facilities, and ensemble opportunities as the BA in Music. Applied lessons and ensemble participation are required every semester throughout the program.
