About this program

Cleveland State University's BM in Performance is the professional performance degree, developing the essential skills required for a successful career in performance while preparing students for the realities of a competitive world. Faculty are drawn from the internationally renowned Cleveland Orchestra and other noted professional instrumental and vocal organizations, providing students with direct access to professional performance expertise. The program offers both classical and jazz performance tracks. Students have ample opportunities to perform both on and off campus, learn about the business of music, and take electives preparing them for careers in related fields — ensuring they are both well-trained musicians and experienced performers. Cleveland's position as a major center for classical music — home to The Cleveland Orchestra, one of the world's great ensembles — provides unique professional exposure for CSU performance students. Facilities include the Music and Communication Building with two performance halls, three large rehearsal halls, two chamber music rehearsal rooms, four electronic music/computer laboratories, and dozens of practice and specialized teaching spaces. All School of Music ensembles are open to all CSU students by audition. CSU vocal ensembles perform annually with the Cleveland Orchestra.
