About this program
Clemson's BA in Performing Arts Music Concentration is a flexible, nationally distinctive program that prepares students for diverse careers in music. Students tailor their studies to suit their needs and aspirations, choosing from coursework in performance, music theory, music history, music technology, and arts administration. The degree supports study across the full spectrum of musical disciplines and is designed for collaborative, multi-disciplinary engagement within the broader performing arts department. Music students choose from more than 20 large and small ensembles within Clemson's band, choir, and orchestra programs. Applied lessons (private instruction) are available to all vocal students and instrumentalists — not only music majors. Students get hands-on experience as a resident of the Brooks Center for the Performing Arts, Clemson's professional roadhouse where world-class touring artists perform. Regular masterclasses with these artists provide direct exposure to professional performance practices. Clemson is an All-Steinway School — all keyboard performance and instruction takes place on Steinway instruments. Students collaborate with theatre and audio technology students and benefit from the experiential nature of the curriculum, with diverse opportunities for creative growth and professional connections. Many students engage in Creative Inquiry undergraduate research projects alongside faculty. Areas of focus available within the music curriculum include performance (vocal and instrumental), music theory, music history, music technology, and arts administration. Graduates have gone on to master's programs in performance and arts journalism and to careers with major arts organizations.
