BFA in Theatre - Musical Theatre Track
Baylor University — Waco, TX
About this program
Baylor University's BFA in Theatre Performance with Musical Theatre Concentration is a professional degree program within the nationally ranked, NAST-accredited Department of Theatre Arts at this large Baptist research university in Waco, Texas. It combines rigorous professional actor training in Stanislavski-based acting, voice and movement, physical theatre, directing, and theatre history with a 15-credit musical theatre concentration sequence emphasizing vocal production, musical theatre styles (traditional and contemporary), dance (ballet, jazz, tap), and performance. The program requires dual admission — students must be accepted by both the university and the Department of Theatre Arts. The MT concentration itself is not entered at admission; students are accepted into it at the end of their second year based on faculty evaluation, with a continuation jury at the end of the third year. From the first week, all students are assigned to technical production crews and paired with a student mentor ("Big"). The program has been named among the top undergraduate theatre programs in the United States.
