BA in Theatre
Westmont College — Santa Barbara, CA
About this program
Westmont College's Theatre Arts program is a dynamic, collaborative program rooted in an incarnational perspective on theater and faith. Located in Santa Barbara, California, the program develops students' creativity, technical skills, and disciplinary knowledge within a rigorous liberal arts environment. The department helps prepare students for careers in professional, educational, and community theaters while providing distinctive artistic experiences for Westmont and the surrounding Santa Barbara communities. The program offers three areas of concentration: Theatre in the Liberal Arts (a focused, hands-on foundation for creative theatre makers), Theatre Studies (comprehensive exploration of craft and artistry for professional theater careers), and Film Studies (integrated liberal arts foundation emphasizing film's intersection with culture). With a faculty that includes MFAs and PhDs, the program emphasizes that students need not limit themselves to a single artistic discipline—actors can also direct, design, and write; playwrights can produce and perform. The department produces 37+ theatrical events annually, including mainstage productions ranging from classics to contemporary works, musicals, dance performances, and the student-led Fringe Festival featuring 27 original pieces of theater, dance, film, and performance art.
