BA in Theatre Studies
Wellesley College — Wellesley, MA
About this program
Wellesley College's Theatre Studies program offers a comprehensive approach to theatre education, encompassing performance, playwriting, design, stagecraft, directing, and public speaking, alongside academic study of theatre history and contemporary practice. Under the guidance of faculty who are working theatre professionals, students develop confidence as creative makers who can envision projects, articulate goals, and collaboratively realize their ideas. The program is deliberately open to all Wellesley students with no special audition requirement, actively cultivating well-rounded majors and makers for whom theatre serves as the nexus of many disciplines. Students gain deep awareness of technical components, practical applications, and historical and social contexts of theatrical performance, with opportunities to apply their studies to department productions, honors theses, or capstone projects. The program aims to achieve competence comparable to conservatory-trained graduates for graduate school and professional opportunities in theatre, film, and television.
