About this program
Virginia State University (VSU) is a public Historically Black College and University (HBCU) founded in 1882, located in Petersburg, Virginia (~5,300 students). Virginia's only land-grant HBCU. The Department of Music is NASM-accredited for both the BA in Music and BM degrees. VSU is an All-Steinway performance facility and Pearl/Adams Percussion partner. The BA in Music — Music Production Technology Concentration adds hands-on instruction in recording, mixing, electronic music, and live sound production using VSU's production facilities. Students work with digital audio workstations, immersive audio technology, and professional production tools. Elective options include advanced music production, music business, and sound design. Students seeking this concentration also undergo a faculty interview and bring samples of their work.
