BME in Pre-Certification (BMpc)
VanderCook College of Music — Chicago, IL
About this program
VanderCook College of Music is a private music college founded in 1909 in Chicago, Illinois — the only college in the United States dedicated solely to training music educators. Located in a Mies van der Rohe building on the Illinois Institute of Technology campus. Enrollment: approximately 72 undergraduates. Student-faculty ratio: 3:1. NASM-accredited and Higher Learning Commission-accredited. Current President: Dr. Kimberly A. Farris. The BMpc is designed for students who wish to complete VanderCook's comprehensive music education curriculum without earning Illinois teaching licensure immediately. The 121-credit program completes the same coursework as the BMEd — theory, music education, applied music, ensembles, and clinics — but does not require the senior seminar courses or student teaching. Graduates may complete the remaining licensure requirements at a future time. This degree appeals to international students and those planning to delay teaching certification.
