University of Rhode Island — Kingston, RI
About this program
The University of Rhode Island Theatre program offers a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre within a liberal arts environment, providing students with foundational training across multiple disciplines including acting, directing, design/technology, and stage/theatre management. The program is built around production-driven learning, with studio-based courses and live performances starting from the first semester. Students engage in hands-on experience across all aspects of production, whether acting, designing, managing stage logistics, or working in costumes and lighting, which builds both technical proficiency and practical experience valuable for professional opportunities. The BA Theatre program promotes an inclusive, student-centered culture with no audition required for entry into the major. Undergraduates have full access to all department productions without competition from graduate students. Students benefit from professional-level theatre facilities including a 500-seat proscenium theatre, a 250-seat black box studio, and dedicated spaces for rehearsal, training, costume and scene shops. The program culminates in a senior seminar and portfolio development, helping students articulate their artistic growth and career readiness.
