About this program

The Theatre Arts program at the University of New Orleans is designed to give students comprehensive experience in theatrical production through courses in acting, technical production, script analysis, playwriting, and the study of modern and contemporary theatrical production. The program combines theory and practice to develop a meaningful artistic voice and prepares students to share their talent in community and educational arenas. As the only university in the country to have won two American College Theatre Festival National Playwriting Awards and two National Irene Ryan Acting Awards, the program is fully accredited by NAST (National Association of Schools of Theatre) and collaborates with the American Film Institute. Students benefit from excellent facilities including a 225-seat Thrust Theatre, a 65-seat proscenium lab, outdoor arena, scene and costume shops, and rehearsal rooms, with four stage productions per year plus dark-night original script readings providing numerous opportunities to develop skills.
