About this program

The University of Minnesota, Twin Cities (UMN) is the flagship public research university of Minnesota, one of the leading research universities in the world, enrolling approximately 34,000 undergraduates in the heart of the Minneapolis–Saint Paul metropolitan area. The Twin Cities are home to one of the most vibrant and innovative theatre ecosystems in the United States — including the Guthrie Theater, Penumbra Theatre, Mixed Blood Theatre, Children's Theatre Company, and dozens of other professional companies. The College of Liberal Arts houses both the Department of Theatre Arts & Dance and the School of Music. The BFA Actor Training Programme is a direct partnership with the Guthrie Theater — one of the most prestigious regional theatres in the world — and limits enrolment to 16-22 actors per year. Dance programmes at UMN are housed in the Barbara Barker Center for Dance. The School of Music provides BMus degrees (Performance, Music Education, Music Therapy) and the BA in Music with Applied or Academic Emphasis, with in-person auditions open to all instruments and voice. In-state tuition: approximately $15,000/year; out-of-state: approximately $33,000/year (confirm at umn.edu).
