About this program

The University of Maryland, College Park is the flagship institution of the University of Maryland System, a public research university of approximately 32,000 undergraduates located 10 miles from Washington, DC. The School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies (TDPS) and the School of Music are both housed within the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center — one of the most significant university performing arts complexes in the United States, featuring multiple performance halls and professional-caliber production resources in the heart of the DC-Maryland-Virginia cultural corridor. UMD's TDPS operates on a distinctive open-access philosophy: the BA in Theatre and BA in Dance are not limited-enrolment programmes — any UMD student may declare either major without an audition. Most TDPS students double major, combining theatre or dance with fields ranging from communications and business to engineering and pre-medicine. Creative and Performing Arts Scholarships (CAPAs), equivalent to full in-state tuition, are awarded to outstanding incoming theatre and dance students through a Scholarship Audition Day. The School of Music offers the full range of BM degrees across instruments, voice, composition, music education, and music technology; all BM applicants must audition. In-state tuition: approximately $10,000/year; out-of-state: approximately $36,000/year (confirm at umd.edu).
