BM in Music
University of Manitoba — Winnipeg, Manitoba
About this program
The University of Manitoba is a public research-intensive university founded in 1877 and located in Winnipeg, Manitoba's capital city and largest urban center (population approximately 850,000). The University of Manitoba enrolls approximately 27,000 students and is situated on the original lands of Anishinaabeg, Ininiwak, Anisininewuk, Dakota Oyate, Dene, Inuit, and on the National Homeland of the Red River Métis. The Desautels Faculty of Music (named in honor of benefactor Marcel Desautels) is a conservatory-caliber music faculty offering BMus, Bachelor of Jazz Studies, and Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Performance programmes, housed in a stunning performing arts complex with a new concert hall that opened in spring. More than 60 per cent of Desautels Faculty of Music students hold music or university scholarships and bursaries — among the most generous scholarship programmes in Canada. Winnipeg's extraordinary arts ecosystem (home to the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Manitoba Opera, and the Prairie Theatre Exchange) provides a rich professional context for music students. NOTE: The University of Manitoba does not offer a specialized Dance programme or a standalone Theatre/Acting degree. For students interested in dance or acting programmes, the University of Manitoba recommends exploring other institutions. Domestic tuition: approximately CAD $5,000-6,000/year for the Faculty of Music (confirm at umanitoba.ca). International: confirm at umanitoba.ca.
