University of Louisiana at Lafayette — Lafayette, LA
About this program
The University of Louisiana at Lafayette is the flagship institution of the University of Louisiana System, founded in 1898 and located in Lafayette — the cultural and economic capital of Acadiana in south-central Louisiana. Lafayette is celebrated as the heart of Cajun and Creole culture, cuisine, and music, and has been called the happiest city in America by National Geographic. UL Lafayette enrolls approximately 16,000 undergraduates. The College of the Arts houses both the School of Dance and Theatre and the School of Music. The School of Music is nationally distinctive for offering Louisiana's only degree programme in Traditional Music — the Cajun, Creole, and indigenous Louisiana musical traditions that are among the most vibrant and unique regional musical cultures in North America. The School of Dance and Theatre provides BFA training in Dance and Theatre within an immersive performing arts environment. Guest artists have included companies from Alvin Ailey, Parsons Dance, Urban Bush Women, Houston Metropolitan Opera, and Bruce Wood. The school participates in the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival and the Southeastern Theatre Conference. In-state tuition: approximately $6,000–7,000/year; out-of-state: approximately $20,000/year (confirm at louisiana.edu).
