About this program

The University of Idaho is the flagship land-grant research university of Idaho, founded in 1889 and located in Moscow, a small college city of 25,000 in the Palouse region of northern Idaho — one of the most visually distinctive agricultural landscapes in the United States. Approximately 9,000 undergraduates are enrolled. The performing arts at Idaho are anchored by the Lionel Hampton School of Music (LHSOM), named in honor of the legendary jazz vibraphonist Lionel Hampton who had a long and celebrated association with Idaho; the Department of Theatre Arts; and the Dance programme within the Department of Movement Sciences. LHSOM is nationally renowned for the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival — a four-day annual event drawing hundreds of top jazz artists from around the world to Moscow, Idaho, making it one of the most extraordinary collegiate jazz events in the United States. The Theatre Arts Department is a strong KCACTF Region VII competitor, and its Rex Rabold Fellowship (with the Oregon Shakespeare Festival) and Ari Keever Trajectory Fellowship (with Boise Contemporary Theater) offer graduating students exceptional entry points into professional theatre. In-state tuition: approximately $8,000/year; out-of-state: approximately $27,000/year (confirm at uidaho.edu).
