About this program

The University of Georgia is the flagship public research university of Georgia, founded in 1785 as the first public university chartered in the United States. Located in Athens — a vibrant college city 90 miles east of Atlanta — UGA enrolls approximately 30,000 undergraduates. The Franklin College of Arts and Sciences houses the Department of Theatre and Film Studies, the Department of Dance, and the Hugh Hodgson School of Music (HHSOM). UGA has a strong tradition of producing professional performing arts practitioners across all three areas: the Theatre alumni include Wayne Knight, Kyle Chandler, and IronE Singleton; the Dance programme is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Dance (NASD) and is the only University System of Georgia institution offering P-12 Dance Certification; the Hugh Hodgson School of Music (named for UGA's renowned professor and university organist) is a major comprehensive music school with conservatory-quality training. Musical theatre at UGA is celebrated as particularly popular, and the university offers an interdisciplinary Musical Theatre Performance Certificate for enrolled Theatre, Music, or Dance majors. In-state tuition: approximately $12,000/year; out-of-state: approximately $30,000/year (confirm at uga.edu).
