About this program

The University of British Columbia (UBC) is Canada's third-largest university and one of the world's top research institutions, ranked consistently among the top 40 universities globally (QS World University Rankings). Founded in 1908 and located on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) people, UBC's Vancouver campus sits on a stunning peninsula between the Pacific Ocean, English Bay, and the Coast Mountains. The university enrols approximately 68,000 students (Vancouver campus) across 14 faculties. Both the School of Music and the Department of Theatre & Film are within the Faculty of Arts. UBC's performing arts resources are exceptional: the Chan Center for the Performing Arts (recently named one of the world's greatest concert halls), the Roy Barnett Recital Hall, the Old Auditorium, and a range of film and theatre production venues. The School of Music is Canada's most comprehensive university music program, with nine areas of study and a wide array of ensembles including the UBC Symphony Orchestra, UBC Opera Ensemble, Symphonic Wind Ensemble, UBC Bands, Jazz Ensemble, Contemporary Players, Early Music Ensembles, University Singers, and University Choral Union, as well as world music ensembles (African Music and Dance, Balinese Gamelan, Chinese Music Ensemble, Korean Drumming). Canadian domestic tuition is approximately CAD $5,000–6,000/year; international tuition approximately CAD $40,000–45,000/year. Note: UBC offers no standalone undergraduate Dance degree at the Vancouver campus; dance courses are available within other programs.
