The University of Auckland (Waipapa Taumata Rau) is Aotearoa New Zealand's largest and most comprehensive university, ranked among the top 100 universities worldwide (QS Rankings). Founded in 1883, it is located in Auckland — New Zealand's largest city — and enrols approximately 45,000 students. Performing arts programs are distributed across two faculties: the School of Music is within the Faculty of Creative Arts and Industries (also home to Dance Studies and Fine Arts), while Drama sits in the Faculty of Arts (Te Pūtahi Mātauranga). The School of Music offers New Zealand's largest and most comprehensive university music programme with specialist resources including up to 50 composition and recording studios, practice rooms, a performance theatre at 6 Symonds Street (Auckland CBD), and the historic Kenneth Myers Center for Jazz at 74 Shortland Street. The school maintains strong professional links with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, Chamber Music New Zealand, NZTrio, and CJC Creative Jazz Club Aotearoa. Dance Studies operates from four purpose-built dance studios with lighting and sound facilities and a performance theatre and recording studio in the historic Kenneth Myers Center. The BDanceSt focuses on contemporary, cultural, and community dance with strong connections to Māori, Pacific, and international dance practice; the programme includes international exchange opportunities and a dual Master's pathway with Beijing Dance Academy. Domestic tuition fees for undergraduate study are approximately NZD $7,500–8,500/year (fees set annually; plus Student Services Fee of $9.44/point); international fees approximately NZD $36,000–45,000/year depending on degree.
