About this program

The University of Arkansas – Fort Smith (UAFS) is a public regional university serving western Arkansas and eastern Oklahoma, founded as Fort Smith Junior College in 1928 and achieving four-year university status in 2002. It enrolls approximately 6,500 students and is a member of the University of Arkansas System. The Department of Music and Theatre is housed in the College of Arts & Sciences and operates out of the Breedlove Building, which includes Breedlove Auditorium (mainstage), a control booth, dressing rooms, and a scene shop. The department presents more than 100 performances per year and maintains a low student-to-faculty ratio. Ensembles include Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble, Women's Choir, Concert Choir, and various chamber groups. Theatre at UAFS is offered as a minor only; there is no standalone BA or BFA in Theatre. Music scholarships are available to all students regardless of major — talent-based awards are made to all who audition. In-state tuition is approximately $8,700/year; out-of-state approximately $15,300/year. Note: UAFS is at the Arkansas–Oklahoma border; the Fort Smith metro area includes Fayetteville/NWA to the north and Tulsa to the northwest.
