About this program
The University of Arkansas (U of A / Razorbacks) is a public research university founded in 1871, the flagship campus of the University of Arkansas System, located in Fayetteville in the northwest Ozark Mountain foothills. With approximately 32,000 students, U of A is classified as a high research activity institution. The Department of Music and the Department of Theatre are both housed within the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences. The Department of Music is NASM-accredited, an All-Steinway School since 2010, and home to over 300 music majors and 50 faculty members serving 30+ ensembles. Principal performance venues include the Jim and Joyce Faulkner Performing Arts Center (600-seat, all large ensemble home) and the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall (200-seat, solo/chamber/guest artist concerts). The Department of Theatre offers a BA in Theatre within a professionally oriented training program in a facility that includes the University Theater (315-seat proscenium stage) and the UA Black Box Theater (181-seat flexible space on the Downtown Fayetteville Square). Northwest Arkansas is a rapidly growing cultural hub including the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art (Bentonville), TheatreSquared (Arkansas's only year-round professional theatre company, a key department partner), and a thriving local music scene. Faculty maintain professional appointments in the Arkansas Philharmonic, Symphony of Northwest Arkansas, Fort Smith Symphony, and Opera Fayetteville. In-state tuition is approximately $9,400/year; out-of-state approximately $25,200/year.
