About this program

The University of Arkansas at Monticello (UAM) is a public university founded in 1909, part of the University of Arkansas System, located in Monticello in southern Arkansas. UAM enrolls approximately 3,500 students across its main campus and two College of Technology branches (Crossett and McGehee). The Division of Music is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) and is situated within the School of Arts and Humanities. UAM's music facilities include the Music Building and the Visual and Performing Arts Center. The Division maintains several ensembles including the UAM "Pride of Southeast Arkansas" Marching Band, the Wind Symphony (premier auditioned ensemble, one player per part), Symphonic Band, Concert Choir, Chamber Choir, Jazz One, Second Jazz Band, Third Jazz Band, and Jazz Combos. UAM performs at the Visual and Performing Arts Center and on tours. The division is notable for its jazz studies program, which includes a graduate-level Master of Music in Jazz Studies — one of the few such programs in the region. Music scholarships are available to all students, not only music majors, and out-of-state tuition waivers may be granted to qualified students. In-state tuition is approximately $7,200/year; out-of-state approximately $13,200/year (before waivers). Note: No Theatre or Dance degree programs are offered at UAM; the Musical Theatre Workshop is a course/performance ensemble within the music program.
