About this program
The University of Akron (UA) is a public research university and the flagship institution of the University of Akron system, located in Akron, Ohio. Founded in 1870, UA enrolls approximately 16,000 students and is classified as a Doctoral/Professional University. The School of Music and the School of Dance, Theatre, and Arts Administration (DTAA) are both housed in Guzzetta Hall and the adjacent Kolbe Hall on UA's main campus, both directed by Marc Reed, DMA. The School of Music's Guzzetta Recital Hall is the primary concert venue. DTAA facilities include 7 state-of-the-art dance studios (one doubles as a performance space), 2 black box theatres, and 1 traditional proscenium theatre. The DTAA hosts 6–10 theatre and dance productions per year and maintains two professional community partners in residence: The National Center for Choreography Akron (NCCAkron) and Rubber City Theatre. The University of Akron Dance Program has been accredited by the National Association of Schools of Dance (NASD) since 1986. UA also has a unique partnership with the Joffrey Ballet School (New York) allowing select students to train at Joffrey while earning their BFA in Dance from UA. In-state tuition for the upcoming cycle-25 is approximately $12,250 per year; out-of-state tuition approximately $19,000. Merit scholarships are automatically considered for music major auditionees after the third audition day.
