About this program

Unitec (Te Whare Wānanga o Wairaka) is the largest institute of technology in Auckland, New Zealand, enrolling approximately 16,844 students across certificate, diploma, bachelor's, and postgraduate programmes. Founded in 1976 as Carrington Technical Institute, Unitec has operated since 2020 as a business division of Te Pūkenga (New Zealand Institute of Skills and Technology) and is currently being merged with the Manukau Institute of Technology (MIT) into a single integrated polytechnic serving the Auckland region. The School of Creative Industries — home to the Bachelor of Performing and Screen Arts (BPSA) — operates from the purpose-built Te Putahi creative arts hub at the Mt Albert campus (Years 1–2) and partners with TAPAC (The Auckland Performing Arts Center) in Henderson for the Acting programme's third year. Contemporary Dance facilities are housed at Auckland Academy of Dance on Portage Road in New Lynn. The BPSA is a 360-credit, 3-year qualification — a standard Bachelor's degree at NZQF Level 7. Domestic NZ fees are approximately NZD 11,500–12,100 per year (inclusive of GST, excluding the Compulsory Student Services Fee). International fees are approximately NZD 26,415 per 120 credits. All three programmes — Acting, Contemporary Dance, and Screen Arts — admit students to the same Bachelor of Performing and Screen Arts qualification, differentiated by major. Unitec's programmes maintain strong connections with Auckland's professional screen and live performance industries, including the New Zealand Dance Company, Footnote NZ Dance, Atamira Dance Company, and the Auckland screen sector.
