BFA in Acting Concentration
The University of Texas at Arlington — Arlington, TX
About this program
The BFA in Theatre Arts with a concentration in Acting is a four-year liberal arts degree with a performing focus. Students take foundational courses in all areas of theatre theory and practice while building professional skills in voice, movement, scene study, rehearsal methods, auditioning, and dance. Additional courses in improvisation, stage combat, devising, and directing are available as your schedule allows. Like all UTA students, Acting majors also take 42 credits of core education credits in areas like writing, math, history, and cultural studies. What makes the BFA Acting program different? The Acting BFA is a performance degree. Students are cast in season productions, program projects, and in-class showings throughout each semester. Our location in the Dallas/Forth Worth metroplex means that you have access to auditioning for professional productions while you’re a student at places like Dallas Theatre Center, Amphibian Stage, Undermain Theatre, and Second Thought. UTA frequently co-produces with local theatres, casting BFA Acting majors alongside professional actors. The faculty in the BFA Acting program are working professionals who are supportive and interested in developing both talented actors AND good humans to graduate and work professionally in the industry. The program has a focus on community with a weekly Studio hour in which BFA Acting Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors all come together to learn, work, and play in relationship with each other. Is the BFA Acting program right for you? If you want personal attention within a close-knit community as you build your movement, voice, and acting skills to pursue a professional career as an actor for the theatre, this is the right program for you.
